John Snow – Managing Director

John has an extensive background in both qualitative and quantitative research spanning more than 20 years in all facets of the research industry, both as a client and as a full-service supplier. Prior to jointly establishing Benchmark Consulting Group, John was a senior executive at Lang Research (SVP), ComQUEST Research (President-Consumer Research), the Angus Reid Group (now known as Ipsos Reid – SVP), and Butler Research (SVP). In earlier years, he was a research manager for some of Canada’s leading food and packaged goods companies, including Procter and Gamble, Bristol Myers and Ralston Purina. This broad base has given him a very solid understanding of clients’ needs in order to provide clear analysis and relevant, actionable advice.

John has a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology from McMaster University. He is a member of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA) and holds the CMRP designation. John has served as a MRIA board and committee member in several capacities over the last two decades.

Charisse Thornley – President

Charisse began her professional career in market research at the Gallup Poll and then at International Surveys Ltd (now part of Ipsos). She then moved to roles in marketing, communications and HR at Scotiabank where she last held the positions of Director, Communications, Marketing and New Product Development in Commercial Banking. In 1999, she started her own communications consulting firm which has grown steadily ever since. She delivers targeted, research-based marketing/ communications and HR strategies and tool. Her main clients are the Ontario Ministries of Health, Environment and Government Services, as well as private sector clients in the legal and packaged goods fields. 

Charisse earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications at the University of Toronto. She has since added a number of credentials, including completion of the Queen’s University Executive Development Program, Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution through the University of Windsor and the Rotman School of Business, Senior Human Resources Program. She holds CHRP and CMRP professional designations in HR and market research respectively.
